Etter visningen blir det samtale med filmens eminente filmfotograf Sturla Brandth Grøvlen, som også står bak filmer som “Et glass til”, “Victoria” (som han vant Sølvbjørnen for) og Krigsseileren (som han blant annet vant ASC Spotlight Award for)...

Den dobbelt Oscar-nominerte komponisten Jóhan Jóhannsson, kjent for sitt samarbeid med Denis Villeneuve, rakk å regissere kun én film før sin tragiske død i en alder av 48—en symbolsk sci-fi-dokumentar som fremhever hans eksepsjonelle talent.

Last and First Men kombinerer en science fiction-fortelling fra 1930 med et uhyggelig musikalsk lydspor og visuelle skildringer av "Spomenik" – futuristiske, abstrakte steinmonumenter reist under kommunisttiden i de tidligere jugoslaviske republikkene.

Fortelleren beskriver livet og samfunnet til en døende, fremtidig menneskerase, mens vi føres gjennom et landskap av surrealistiske og fantasifulle monumenter, filmet i 16mm sort-hvitt. Disse strukturene, en gang ment som symboler på enhet og brorskap, men nå glemt, forfalne og overgrodd av vegetasjon, står som ensomme, forlatte fyrtårn som fortsatt sender sitt budskap ut i ødemarken i Balkan-republikkene. Den vandrende kameraet tar oss med gjennom dette futuristiske landskapet, mens vi gradvis blir kjent med den tragiske, men likevel håpefulle historien om de siste menneskene.

A post-screening conversation will be held with Sturla Brandth Grøvlen, the film's renowned cinematographer, whose work includes award-winning films like Another Round, Victoria (winner of the Silver Bear), and The War Sailor (ASC Spotlight Award winner).

The double Oscar-nominated composer Jóhan Jóhannsson, famed for his work with Denis Villeneuve, directed just one film before his tragic death at 48—a symbolic sci-fi documentary showcasing his unique talent.The film juxtaposes a science fiction story written in 1930 and a haunting musical score with filmed images of the “Spomenik” – futuristic, abstract stone monuments erected during the communist era in the former Yugoslav republics.

The narrator describes the life and society of a dying future race of humans, while taking us through a landscape of surreal and phantasmagorical monuments - filmed in 16mm black and white. These structures – once intended as symbols of Unity and Brotherhood but now forgotten, derelict and overgrown by vegetation – stand like lone, abandoned beacons, still beaming their message into the wilderness of the Balkan republics. The roving camera takes us through this futuristic landscape while we gradually learn all about the tragic and yet hopeful story of the last humans.
