Javier Bardem står i bar overkropp foran havet

Havet innenfor vises som en del av ESCENA Oslo Ibero-Amerikanske Filmdager, en plattform for kulturell utveksling mellom Norge og den ibero-amerikanske regionen.

Award-winning film by the Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar, who received the Oscar and Golden Globe for best international film and two awards at the Venice Film Festival: The Jury's Special Prize, and the Best Actor award for Javier Bardem. The film turns 20 this year and we want to celebrate the anniversary with a special screening.

Based on real events, the film reflects on life, death and love. The film shows the story of Ramón Sampedro, who has been bedridden for almost thirty years. Since an accident left him a paraplegic, he depends on his family for everything. Aware that his condition will never improve, he fights to be able to die with dignity. Every aspect of "The Sea Inside" manifests Amenabar's obvious respect and passion for Sampedro's long battle.

"The Sea Inside" flows through Sampedro's relationships with two women: Julia, his attorney, who embraces his cause and his fight and Rosa, a local woman who desperately clings to the hope of convincing him that life is worth living. The irony of Sampedro's battle is that in fighting for his own right to die he fostered empowerment, hope and passion in the lives of these two women and many others.

Stellar production design, breathtaking cinematography and attention to the most minute detail help to make "The Sea Inside" visually hypnotic. Amenabar's original score for the film builds from somber orchestral chords to a more lilting, folk-influenced Galician dance.
