Regissør Nicole Vogele og filmfotograf Stefan Sick, som er nominert til både MIRAGE Directing Award og MIRAGE Cinematography Award for filmen, som nylig også ble nominert til European Film Awards, vant Vision du Reel og Doc Alliance hovedpris.

Hverdagslivet i denne lille grensebyen mellom Kroatia og Bosnia går sakte forbi – noen få hus og et par skur er tilfeldig spredt utover åsene. A cinematographic essay that centres around the region of the Bosnian-Croatian border, where the scars of the 1990s war connect to the fate of today’s refugees. The result is a portrait of a haunted landscape but also a portrait of human resilience and warmth.

The daily life in this tiny border village between Croatia and Bosnia goes by slowly—a few houses and a couple of sheds are randomly dotted across the hills. The idyll of this seemingly unspoiled landscape is deceptive. This film shows the fragility of everyday life, challenged by the arrival of refugees fleeing horrors that are all too familiar to the people here. This shared experience fosters a bond of compassion and profound encounters that lie at the heart of a restrained but rewarding film.

The film becomes a portrait of a perhaps inconsolable, haunted landscape but also a portrait of human resilience and warmth—a bright flicker in the darkness.
